Trillian offer the unique capability to gather you IM programs into one neat little package so you dont have to go looking for them thru many screens. It accepts IRC ,IRQ, AOL ,MSN, Yahoo ... and makes the all availiable in one package so there is no need to keep swapping.
This is the free ware version but there is also a pro version that you have to pay for.

highly recomended, I been using it for about 3 years now with little to no problems..... you will still have most of your functionality of the original programs.
smaller footprint, less clutter, more conectivity..... then running them all seprate.

By the way... did you know you can add messenger services to trillian? If you have the pro version you can install plugins for other messengers such as jabber.
